The Colpoys Ski Trail is located northeast of Wiarton, Ontario. It offers 11.5 kilometers of cross-country ski trails.
The cross-country ski trails start just north of Colpoy’s Bay. They run through gently rolling, sheltered woods and open fields. One part follows the well-known Bruce Trail. Several places offer great views across the bay.
Trails are groomed and trackset as often as possible, depending on the weather and conditions.
Maps and Conditions of Cross-Country Ski Trails
The trailhead for the Colpoys Ski Trail is located on Bruce Road 9 north of Colpoy’s Bay, northeast of Wiarton, Ontario (44.785044° -81.124368°).
Most people enter the trail system by heading east through the field to the gates and continuing on to the Beaver pond loop or up Bert’s boulevard.
If the wind is really blowing, an alternate entry can be made by going north and taking the short crossing of the fields and onto the trail system that way.
Trail maps are posted at Colpoys Ski Trail. You can also download a printable high-resolution map of the cross-country ski trails.
Some sections of the trails run over very rocky ground. This means that lots of snow is needed before grooming can begin during the cross-country ski season.
Although the trail conditions vary from year to year, Colpoys Ski Trail has an average of 80 to 90 skiable days each year. The ski tracks that run through the exposed parts of the field will sometimes blow in quickly, but the tracks in the woods usually last longer.
Accessing Colpoys Ski Trail
Non-members may purchase a day pass at a very reasonable rate at the Colpoys Ski Trail trailhead or at other locations.
The annual membership and day pass are valid for cross-country ski trails at the Bruce Ski Club’s locations in Grey and Bruce Counties. Both passes also give you access to the snowshoe trails at Sawmill Nordic Centre.
