Colpoys Trail is located northeast of Wiarton, Ontario. It offers 11.5 kilometers of classic style cross-country ski trails.
The trail head is just north of Colpoys Bay on Bruce Road 9 (44.785044° -81.124368°). The trails run through gently rolling, sheltered woods and open fields. One part follows the well-known Bruce Trail. Several places offer great views across the bay. Trails are groomed and trackset for classic skiing as often as possible, depending on the weather and conditions.
COVID 19 Mitigations
See the COVID 19 instructions on the bruceskiclub home page. Everyone should maintain at least 2 meter separation from people who are not in your bubble. If you are not able to maintain this separation (for instance in the parking lot) then you must wear a mask. Bring a mask with you on the trail just in case. THERE IS NO PORTA-POTTY AT COLPOYS TRAIL THIS YEAR. There might be a porta-potty at the Colpoys Bay pier where Grey Road 9 meets Mallory Beach Road.
Conditions of Cross-Country Ski Trails at Colpoys
The season has hardly begun and we are off to a very exciting start at Colpoys Trail.
First, Neil and Richard installed our new groomer’s shed behind the old barn. This is a big step up from the rickety old tent. We bought the shed from Old Hickory Buildings & Sheds. Neil built and installed ramps at each end so he can drive the Skandic through it.
There are two flooded points at the trail. The worst flooding is at intesection G where Beaver Dam, Porcupine and West Trails meet. The snowmobile sank in more than two feet of water.
Thank you to Neil, Ron, Fred and Richard for a long afternoon winching out the skandic and towing it back to the trailhead.
Follow the re-routed trails around the flooding at G.
There is also flooding north of intersection C on the short trail between C and D. Use Deer Run to move between Bert’s Boulevard and Pines Trail/Ron’s Trail.
We are fortunate to have skiable conditions in December this year but please avoid the flooded sections. Use the detour around G. Skiing with wet socks and boots can be an unhappy experience. If you attempt to go through G be prepared for three feet of water.
