Events are held at the Sawmill Nordic Centre in Hepworth, Ontario, or at the club’s other two locations. There are ski races for classic and skate skiing styles.

UPCOMING RACES – 2024/25 Ski Season

Community Classic Ski Race – Public Race – Feb. 23, 2025 – BSC hosts the Community Classic. All our trails will be open but the parking lot will be very busy. The race should be done by 1:00 pm.

 

School Race – Elementary Ski Race – Feb. 27, 2025 –  All Trails Open and parking should not be a problem. The race will run from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.

🎉 Julian Smith qualifies for World Cup, Period 3! 🎉

Julian’s 2024/2025 race season has started out well. He raced at Sovereign Lake, BC, at the Nordic Cup (COC)  Dec 6 -.8, and then again at Lappe, On. in the Selection Trials Jan 2 – 6th. The results: Julian Smith is the COC Male Sprint Leader! Julian has flown, with the Canadian team, to France to prepare for 4 weekends of World Cup racing in Les Rousses, France; Engadin, Switzerland; Cogne, Italy; and Falun, Sweden. Cheer him and the team on. You can watch live on youtube or in the fis app.

Julian started skiing with the Jack Rabbit program at Sawmill Trails at 6 years old. He raced for Hepworth Public School and then West Hill Secondary School, where he won many medals, including a gold at OFSSA. He went on to win a gold at Ski Nationals in the sprint category as a member of GBN, under the coaches Marilyn Suke and Ken Clarke. He lives and trains in Thunder Bay with NTDC, which is coached by Timo Puiras, and continues to be a GBN Alumni. He has been on the Junior National Ski Team (2017) and the National Ski Team (2019). He has been to three World Junior Championships and one World Championships.

The Bruce Ski Club also hosts several other cross-country ski events each year, such as:
  • Awesome Adult Afternoon Ski Lesson – TBD: A GBN-sponsored event for adults interested in improving their ski skills.
  • Cross-Country Ski Swap – TBD: If you are in need of used ski equipment, the Ski Swap is a great place to find it. Held at Suntrail Source for Adventure in Hepworth, Ontario.
  • Free-to-Ski Day – TBD: Everyone skis and snowshoes for free at Sawmill Nordic Centre. Non-members, please sign a waiver (available at the ski hut) before heading out on the trails. Tours, lessons, and food. Fun for all
  • Love Your Skis Day – TBD, Parking lot of Suntrail Source for Adventure in Hepworth, Ontario: Get your skis cleaned and waxed by members of Georgian Bay Nordic. All proceeds benefits GBN’s ski program.
  • Moonlight Ski – TBD, a nighttime skiing event hosted at Sawmill Nordic Centre.
  • Ski Too Far – TBD, a chance to test your skiing endurance, almost like a ski race against yourself.
  • Ski Trail Work Parties, held each fall to clear the trails of trees and debris.

    • Colpoys Bay: Oct. 26
  • World Snow Day – TBD: Bruce Ski Club will be participating in this worldwide event to get more people skiing. Stay tuned for more details
